I see where you are coming from But I think the issue is constant self-improvement materially. I don’t always want to be chasing money, status, and my career development. Even though they are important, I like to constantly self-improve in other ways. Like health, relationships, mindset, and my behavior. It is important for me to always improve because we all have a ripple effect on the world. I do like the idea of this article about improving more slowly, when I tend to try to improve so much at once I end up improving less like people with new year resolutions as an example.

I love shopping second hand! Thanks for highlighting that tip. We are wrapping up a big home remodel and I am so excited to be at the decor stage. The demolition stage dragged on forever! Darryl Carter’s home is my jam. We built a home last year, and it is stunning. But I am missing a dedicated office and reading space, hopefully, close to the front foyer. We’re collecting ideas for our next build in three or four years. The Carter house, and the Carly Summers home’s stone and oven, are now on our design list. Thank you!

Hello from Rio, Brazil!
Let me share my pro p.o.v. about your “regrets”, begining by saying that all those 3 kitchen are wonderful.
As for your first regret, cement tiles flooring, I think you didn’t have the right guidance from your supplier or designer/contractor to begin with.
Cement tiles require high maintenance, specially right after installation: You MUST provide lots of sealing both from water and grease. There are special products for that.
Back in the day when cement tiles were almost the only choice available in Brazil (for kitchen, service hallways, shops) (until about 1940’s, when linoleum was the american popular kitchen flooring) people used WAXING over and over until they absorb it (im talking about months), so they were matte-finished no more. Then they became low-maintenance for good. Too bad you haven’t done that (with new products other then wax, irs easier and safer!)
As for your third “regret”, flooring again! shame on you 😀 JUST DON’T regret!. First because the floor was/is already beautiful. But mainly because you would regret your “gut” choice for marble, which, again, is high maintenance as well! If you ever change flooring, I highly recomend you use porcelain (fake but very realistic marble-like) which is zero maintenance.
